BYD announced that it has sold more than 1 million cars so far in 2024, including plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. This shows that the company reached an important milestone before the end of the year. August sales were also at an all-time high.
BYD sold 1 million electric cars in nine months
BYD announced that it sold 373,82 hybrid and electric cars in August alone. Accordingly, it surpassed the previous record set in July. Plug-in hybrid vehicle sales exceeded 222 thousand units in August, marking the sixth consecutive record for the company.
Electric vehicle sales also increased in August, reaching 148 thousand. Accordingly, BYD’s total vehicle sales for the year exceeded the 1 million mark and reached 1 million 4623 units as of August. This represents a 12 percent growth compared to the same period last year.
BYD’s sales outside China increased by 26 percent year-on-year to more than 31 thousand vehicles. As of the end of August, it announced that it had sold about 265,000 vehicles internationally.
The sales figures for August enabled BYD to break monthly sales records for three consecutive months. This success reflects BYD’s popular models such as Dolphin, Seal and Atto 3. The company is also entering several new markets, including Turkey.
The company also has ambitious targets in Europe. BYD Europe CEO Michael Shu announced earlier this year, before the opening of the factory in Hungary, that they were targeting 5 percent of the European electric vehicle market.
