28 Years Later, a third movie is in development
Director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are reuniting to bring fans the long-awaited sequel to the 2002 zombie classic 28 Days Later.
Titled “28 Years Later”, the project has the potential to become a trilogy if successful. Coming more than two decades after the release of the original film, this news has already created excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of the gripping narrative that redefined the zombie genre.
The original “28 Days Later” was a groundbreaking movie, introducing audiences to a new kind of zombie – fast, deadly and utterly terrifying. It revolutionized the depiction of the walking dead, breaking away from the traditional slow-moving zombies and paving the way for a wave of modern horror films. Its award in 2023 as one of the best zombie movies of all time further cemented its enduring legacy.
While the first sequel “28 Weeks Later” was released in 2007, rumors of a potential sequel to be titled “28 Months Later” have been circulating since 2015 with no concrete developments.
Now, these rumors seem to be turning into reality with the announcement of 28 Years Later. The decision to continue the narrative after such a significant time jump adds an intriguing element to the story and makes one wonder about the state of the world after the original pandemic.
Inspired by the success of Mad Max: Fury Road, which effectively revitalized its own franchise in 2015, Boyle and Garland are optimistic about 28 Years Later’s potential to do the same for their beloved series.
