vivo has taken a major step in the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the X Fold 5. Weighing just 217 grams, it’s promoted as the world’s lightest large-sized foldable phone and comes packed with a variety of new features.
What does the vivo X Fold 5 offer?
The inner display of the foldable device measures 8.03 inches and uses an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2480×2200 pixels. It supports a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz and can reach up to 4500 nits of peak brightness.
The outer display is 6.53 inches with FHD+ resolution. Both screens offer 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision support, 10.7 billion colors, and high-frequency PWM dimming to reduce eye strain.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the X Fold 5 comes in configurations of up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage. A specialized antenna system optimized with Qualcomm ensures a 36% boost in signal strength when the phone is folded.
The device features a triple rear camera setup: a 50 MP Sony IMX921 main sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50 MP IMX882 periscope lens with 3x optical and 100x digital zoom. With ZEISS optics, the camera system aims to deliver exceptional performance in portraits, macros, and low-light scenarios. Both the inner and outer screens house a 20 MP selfie camera.
A 6000 mAh Blue Ocean battery, developed in partnership with CATL, powers the device. Using fourth-generation silicon anode and semi-solid-state battery technology, it can operate in extreme cold temperatures down to -30°C. Charging options include 80W wired, 40W wireless, and reverse wireless charging. Notably, the inner display can be replaced independently—an industry first.
The X Fold 5 features a new hinge made from FS55 steel and carbon fiber. It holds IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+ water resistance certifications, protecting the phone from hot water up to 80°C and high-pressure jets. It also has IP5X dust resistance and can function in temperatures as low as -20°C.
