In the last week, nearly 2 million vehicles were checked during intensive inspections carried out to increase traffic safety. As a result of the determined efforts of the police and gendarmerie teams, 447 thousand drivers were prosecuted for various violations. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya emphasized that these inspections are an important step towards preventing traffic accidents.
Almost 2 million vehicles checked during traffic inspections
Between August 8 and 15, a total of 1 million 971 thousand 985 vehicles were inspected by police and gendarmerie traffic teams. As a result of these inspections, various fines were imposed on 447 thousand 672 vehicles and drivers who did not comply with the rules. Fines were imposed on many issues such as speed violations, driving without a driver’s license and not wearing seat belts, which are the main causes of traffic accidents.
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated on social media that speed violations are one of the biggest factors causing traffic accidents. Emphasizing that 35 percent of traffic accidents in the first 7 months of 2024 were caused by speeding, Yerlikaya announced that more effective measures will be taken in this regard. He said that “Mobile Speed Detection Systems” developed with domestic and national resources were put into use for this purpose.
During these inspections carried out within the scope of traffic safety, 134,588 drivers were fined for speed violations. In addition, 26,165 drivers who did not have their vehicles periodically inspected, 17,772 drivers who did not use seat belts and 16,102 people driving without a driver’s license were prosecuted. In addition, 9,710 vehicles were penalized for being in traffic without compulsory financial liability insurance.
In order to prevent traffic accidents, inspections will be increased both on urban and intercity roads. Domestic and national “Mobile Speed Detection Systems” will play an important role in this process. Ali Yerlikaya invited all drivers to obey traffic rules and not to speed. Emphasizing the importance of seat belts, he said, “Journeys exist to reunite you with your loved ones, not to separate them.”
