Netflix announced a new feature called Profile Transfer. The feature allows users to move their “personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings” to a new account, according to the company’s press release. The feature has been tested for over a month in a few countries. This prevents their personal data from being erased.
Netflix Profile Transfer feature will secure your personal data
This feature has two main purposes. The first of it helps you when you break up with your partner, roommate or family members. With the help of this feature, you don’t have to see their profiles anymore when you logged in. So you don’t need to quietly change your password and lock them out. Likewise, if you are the one who has to leave the account, you don’t have to lose your data anymore. All you need to do is transfer your profile to another account.
The second purpose is for Netflix’s own good. Netflix is doing its very best to make sure that everyone has their own account. The streamer company has estimated that more than 100 million households are accessing the service through shared accounts. Netflix wants to avoid the problem of sharing accounts. With the help of the Profile Transfer feature, cracking down on password sharing is one of the company’s primary directives to increase subscribers.
Netflix Profile Transfer feature is rolling out today
“People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same,” Timi Kosztin, product manager, Product Innovation, Netflix, wrote in today’s blog. “No matter what’s going on, let your Netflix profile be a constant in a life full of changes so you can sit back, relax and continue watching right from where you left off.”
The feature is rolling out today, and subscribers worldwide will be notified via email. Once available, users can go to their profile icon on the Netflix homepage and find the “Profile Transfer” option. Also, the “Profile Transfer” option can be turned off in account settings.
