About a month ago, WhatsApp officially introduced multi-device usage for Android users. This feature, which allows linking up to five Android phones to a single account, is now also available for iOS devices.
WhatsApp multi-device support now available on iOS devices
WhatsApp has now made the multi-device usage feature available for iOS devices with the 23.10.76 update. iOS users can start using this feature by updating the app through the App Store.
Just like on Android, the messaging app’s iOS version synchronizes the chat history, and all messages can be used across all devices. Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, stated that the new multi-device usage does not pose a barrier to end-to-end encrypted conversations.
However, it is worth mentioning that some features are only available on the primary device. Certain features such as messaging broadcast lists and status updates will be exclusive to the primary device. Additionally, the new version allows GIFs to be automatically played in chats without having to tap on the message.
With over 2 billion users, WhatsApp is one of the largest communication platforms. Previously, multi-device support could not be provided due to the end-to-end encryption support offered in the popular app. However, thanks to the newly developed technology, the company can now synchronize devices while maintaining end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp initially started testing the multi-device feature in 2021. After approximately two years, the “companion mode” is finally being released. Telegram and Messenger, the platform’s two biggest rivals, have long had this feature. However, it is important to note that these applications do not offer end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp continues to introduce different features to enhance the user experience. What are your thoughts on WhatsApp and its multi-device support? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
