Meta is accelerating its work in the field of artificial intelligence. The company has announced a new project focused on productive artificial intelligence and has introduced an AI-based speech tool called Voicebox. However, the company stated that Voicebox will not be made available to users due to “potential misuse.”
What is Meta Voicebox AI?
Voicebox, developed by Meta, claims to be the first AI model that can complete tasks beyond its training. The tool currently supports six languages and can mimic a person’s voice using just a two-second audio sample.
However, according to the social media giant, Voicebox’s success can open the door to dangerous situations. Voicebox can generate fake conversations from a text containing all possible speech sounds, leading to potentially harmful consequences when misused.
One of the major risks associated with AI systems like Voicebox is the ability to impersonate well-known individuals’ voices, which can result in the spread of misinformation and an increase in fraudulent activities.
Meta also highlighted that these tools can be used to improve speeches created by real individuals. The ability to edit audio recordings allows for enhancing the quality of previously recorded speech.
Meta acknowledges the risks associated with this technology. Therefore, instead of making Voicebox publicly available, the company has presented it as a research paper to prevent its misuse.
