Samsung is working on new devices that push the boundaries of wearable technology. Recent patent applications filed in South Korea show that the company has developed a Galaxy Ring with relatively simple functions. Designed as a smart ring, the accessory will be able to perform a variety of tasks, including health monitoring. Here are the Samsung Galaxy Ring’s release date, features and other details.
Samsung Galaxy Ring release date and features
According to patent applications, the Samsung Galaxy Ring will include a number of health tracking features. ECG (electrocardiogram) and PPG (photoplethysmography) sensors from the Galaxy Watch series will be incorporated into the ring. This will allow heart rate and body temperature to be monitored.
A model called Oura Ring 3 is currently leading the smart ring market. This ring, which has ECG and PPG sensors, can offer similar health features, but in a much smaller form than a smartwatch.
Samsung does not seem to be ignoring athletes with its Smart Ring. By offering fitness features similar to smartwatches, it will pave the way for smart rings to track fitness. It is also rumoured to be able to track sleep.
Samsung is also said to be working on smart home integration. This will allow the Galaxy Ring to connect to Samsung TVs and control other devices.
As only a few patent applications have been filed so far, it is difficult to predict when the Galaxy Ring will be released. However, it is safe to say that Samsung is entering a new market and will be taking a cautious approach. The first applications suggest that a smart ring will not be introduced until 2023.
