Mercedes-AMG C63 and E63 could use V8 engines again
Mercedes-Benz has been one of the brands increasing engine displacement through hybrid systems lately. The impact of this was most evident in their high-performance model, the Mercedes-AMG C63.
With its V8 engine, the Mercedes-AMG C63 has become an icon over time. However, in its latest generation, it transitioned to a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, twin-turbocharged engine with the support of an electric motor. This combination produces a total of 680 horsepower, which is undoubtedly impressive, but it hasn’t entirely satisfied many car enthusiasts, especially those eagerly waiting for the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE model.
The lawsuit filed by a group of Tesla owners claims that the company exaggerated the driving ranges of its vehicles.
A similar situation applies to the Mercedes-AMG E63. The current model bid farewell to V8 engines, and the expectation is that it will switch to a hybrid V6 unit in the new generation. Car enthusiasts, however, doubt that the new model can compete with the M5 model, which is planned to continue with its twin-turbocharged V8 setup.
Given this situation, Mercedes-Benz is expected to make a crucial decision for the new generation C63 AMG and E63 AMG. The information received suggests that starting from 2026, Mercedes-Benz will use the M177-coded 4.0-liter V8 engine in its performance models.
This powerful eight-cylinder engine is currently being updated to meet the EU7 emission standards. We have already seen this hybrid V8 motor in the 831-horsepower AMG GT63 S E Performance and the 791-horsepower AMG S63. It seems that we will witness more hybrid cars from Mercedes-Benz in the coming years.
