Rockstar Games is a company known for its extended intervals between game releases, but there’s a reason for it: each of their games is of high quality. According to the latest announcement from the company, we might not experience captivating stories like those of GTA 4, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 1, and Red Dead Redemption 2 again. And this is bad news for GTA 6
The Vice President responsible for story writing at Rockstar Games has left the company without participating in GTA 6
Mike Unsworth, who was responsible for writing at Rockstar Games, has left the company. Unsworth had been with Rockstar for 16 years. He started as a senior creative writer in 2007, became the Director of Writing in 2019, and then served as Vice President of Writing for two years.
Throughout his tenure, the experienced writer penned Grand Theft Auto 4, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Grand Theft Auto 6 is not currently part of Unsworth’s list of authored games.
As pointed out by GTA Forum user Rucke and tweeted by Rockstar Games news account SWEGTA, Unsworth updated his LinkedIn profile to announce his departure, but did not make a clear post about it or shed light on his next steps.
Until now, the GTA series has been known for its story narratives that sarcastically critique America and utilize dark humor as a tool. However, fans of the series were worried about the direction of GTA 6, particularly after the departure of one of the company’s founders, Dan Houser.
There were concerns that GTA 6 might adopt a softer tone due to societal pressures, potentially losing the essence of the GTA spirit. With Unsworth, who had written the previous two games in the series, stepping down as a writer, people’s expectations have been shaken.
Moreover, it’s been revealed that Unsworth hadn’t even worked on GTA 6. What are your thoughts on this situation? Please feel free to share your opinions in the comments.
