Rockstar’s two big franchises of recent years, Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, continue to captivate gamers. While the company is currently working on GTA 6, the Red Dead Redemption 3 announcement may have come from an unexpected name.
Rockstar takes time to develop “extraordinary” RDR 3
Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, held a new meeting with investors. It was confirmed that the third installment of the Red Dead Redemption series is in development. However, according to the company executive, RDR 3 will not be released anytime soon.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick compared Red Dead Redemption to James Bond in a statement to investors. Zelnick said, “If a series is really great, it will continue. I think Red Dead Redemption is one of them.”
Zelnick also warned investors that there is no rush to “build anticipation” on big titles like RDR. “We’re taking the time to do something that we think is extraordinary, and at the same time we’re deliberately resting certain franchises. So there’s pent-up demand for that franchise,” he said.
The last game in the series, Red Dead Redemption 2, was released in 2018 after an eight-year wait. Compared to the first game, the sequel for both PC and console is considered one of the best games of all time.
Rockstar Games is currently focused on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6. Considering that GTA 6 is due out in 2024-25, a new RDR game is probably years away. In fact, the first predictions are that it will be in the 2030s.
