Netflix is preparing to present one of the saddest real-life survival stories with cinematic storytelling. The first trailer for the movie, based on a book about a real-life accident, has been released.
The first trailer for Netflix’s new movie Society of the Snow, which received a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes
“Society of the Snow” is based on the book of the same name and tells the story of the infamous Andes plane crash in late 1972, when Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed into the snowy mountains and survivors had to resort to unimaginable measures to survive.
The newly released trailer for Society of the Snow is visually stunning and heartbreaking, capturing the historical accuracy and intensity of the real-life tragedy. The film delves deeper into the despair and hopelessness faced by the survivors of the crash, taking a darker and seemingly more historically accurate approach than Alive, a previous film about the event.
Despite its horrific subject matter, early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. The movie currently has an impressive 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised the film for its superb acting, cinematography and haunting score, and called it a must-see among the upcoming Netflix releases.
One critic singled out one scene in particular, calling it “one of the best in the history of disaster movies”. Another critic noted the film’s ability to pay respect to the people involved while recreating real-life events, and praised Society of the Snow for its careful remembrance of the dead. The review emphasized that the film’s gripping and emotional portrayal of the flight disaster in the Andes puts viewers directly into the heart of the freezing ordeal.
Directed by JA Bayona, the film explores the psychological impact of the harrowing experience of the survivors, focusing in particular on the impact on young, religious men faced with an unimaginable situation. The film does not shy away from showing the desperate measures taken by the survivors.
Society of Snow will be released on January 4, 2024 for everyone with a Netflix subscription. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
