Is the giant company stopping game development?

Warner Bros will increase its investment in games. However, the company will focus on live-service.

After the huge sales success of Hogwarts Legacy and the disappointing performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, all eyes are on Warner Bros. However, Warner Bros Games said that it will increase its investment in games and even offer its major franchises as live-service.

Warner Bros Discovery Games and Publishing CEO JB Perrette discussed the company’s new strategy. Perrette said that WB Games will focus on titles that can generate recurring revenue, rather than publishing only one-off titles.

In this context, he explained that Warner Bros. wants to turn series such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones into live-service games. The games to be published on all platforms will provide long-term returns.

“We see an opportunity to take our best franchises and create live-service games where people can interact with and experience these worlds on an ongoing basis,” Perrette said.

He cited the volatility in the big-budget market as evidence of this strategic shift. However, it should be noted that the live-service Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a huge disappointment and was criticized by gamers.

Perrette revealed that they have plans for live-service, including some mobile games planned for release later this year. The upcoming Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is also thought to be in this genre.
