The tech giant recently announced its latest update, One UI 6.1 version, along with the Galaxy S24 series. After releasing the update to the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung has started rolling out the update to older devices as well. Before downloading the update, there are some precautions you need to take for your Galaxy phone or tablet. Let’s take a look together.
Precautions before updating to Samsung Galaxy One UI 6.1
Initially, the company limited the One UI 6.1 operating system to models introduced in 2023 right after the S24, but later included flagship models introduced in 2022 to compatible devices as well. After encountering issues such as access errors to the device during the update process, based on user feedback, the company temporarily halted the update, but now it continues to roll it out regularly.
Available for the Samsung Galaxy S24, S23, S22, S21, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, Tab S9, and Tab S8+ series, the update brings many new features such as Google Circle to Search. However, it’s advisable to take a few precautions before downloading the update.
Back up your device:
One of the most important things to do before downloading an update is to back up your device. Especially before major updates, backing up your device can be a good precaution against potential issues. While there are many ways to back up your Galaxy phone or tablet, the easiest way might be to create a temporary backup. You can back up your device to Samsung Cloud or Google Drive through the Accounts and Backup section in the Settings app.
Remove the screen lock:
In terms of security, it may not make you feel comfortable, but one of the precautions to take before downloading a major update like One UI 6.1 is to remove the security lock on your device. Considering it’s been one of the issues faced by other users, if you decide to remove it, you can do so by going to the Lock Screen section in the Settings app and removing the security measure you’ve set up.
