An exciting leak in the gaming world has dropped like a bomb on the agenda. According to a game retailer, 2K will develop a new soccer game series by taking the official FIFA license. Let’s take a look at the details together.
2K and FIFA may be forming a new partnership
While these claims have yet to be confirmed by official sources, they are in line with rumors from earlier this year that 2K and FIFA were in talks for such a partnership. Insider Gaming also reported earlier this year that it had heard that 2K and FIFA were planning to partner to develop an officially licensed FIFA game.
This news came alongside the claim that FIFA 2K25 would be released this year. However, the fact that a game could be ready in such a short time raised doubts in some quarters. Still, a competitor to EA’s soccer franchise other than Konami’s eFootball series is something that is absolutely necessary.
EA announced that it would continue its long-running FIFA series without the FIFA license. This year’s new game, EA Sports FC 24, was a huge success, reaching 11.3 million players in its first week. This figure was quite impressive compared to the 10.3 million players last year’s FIFA 23 reached in the same period. Even though EA has lost the FIFA license, it has shown that the football game series continues to be successful.
EA Sports FC 24 was released at the end of September for PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC and Switch. 2K’s takeover of the FIFA series could be the beginning of a new era for soccer game fans.
If these leaks are true, the release of FIFA 2K25 will make a big change in the world of soccer games. The addition of 2K as a new competitor to EA’s long-standing dominance could be an exciting development for players. Let’s not get too excited until official announcements are made.
