Ubisoft’s Call of Duty rival first-person shooter XDefiant is making big changes in response to player feedback. Mark Rubin, the game’s executive producer, responded to player requests and announced new changes to make progression easier and a ranked mode that will be introduced in Season 1.

In response to this feedback, the developers have reduced the amount of XP players need to advance to the next level from 30,000 to 15,000. Mark Rubin stated that the levels will remain the same, but this change will preserve the speed increase by 14%.

Once these new changes go into effect, players’ levels will also be updated retroactively. Rubin didn’t know exactly when these changes will be implemented, but said it will be “very soon”.

Rubin also explained why Ubisoft is in this situation. “To be clear, the main grind in our game right now is Weapon Mastery,” he said. Ubisoft is working to change that, and Rubin said that ranked play is one way to do that. The studio is also working on other ways players can grind for rewards in future updates.

For now, Weapon Mastery remains the main element that brings XDefiant players back to the game. Ubisoft San Francisco had tried to slow down the process, concerned that players were completing the system too quickly.

However, Rubin said that the studio now realizes this was a mistake. These changes, made in response to player feedback, aim to make the game a more balanced and satisfying experience.
