OpenAI has introduced a smaller version of its GPT-4o AI model, the GPT-4o Mini. This new, cost-effective model promises competitive performance at a lower price. Here’s what you need to know about the GPT-4o Mini:
What Does GPT-4o Mini Promise?
The GPT-4o Mini aims to provide advanced AI technology at a more accessible price point. It has been noted that its performance is only seven points lower than the GPT-4o in MMLU benchmarks.
Compared to OpenAI’s previous mini model (GPT-3.5 Turbo), the GPT-4o Mini operates at 60% lower cost. According to the company, the cost is expected to be $0.60 per million output tokens and $0.15 per million input tokens.
In this regard, GPT-4o Mini surpasses other mini AI models like Anthropic Claude 3 Haiku and Anthropic Gemini 1.5 Flash. While it will replace the GPT-3.5 Turbo model, it is positioned to compete directly with the GPT-4o.
OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman stated, “We aim to advance AI research while making the latest technologies more affordable and widely accessible.”
Brockman added that GPT-4o Mini promises to deliver high-quality standards at a lower cost. The new model will also offer speech capabilities for APIs, ChatGPT applications, and third-party businesses.
