Spotify is raising the lyric access limit for free users. In May, Spotify had imposed a restriction allowing free users to view only three song lyrics per month. This move was intended to encourage more users to subscribe to the premium plan. However, following user complaints, Spotify has decided to revise this restriction. Here are the details…
Spotify Increases Free Users’ Lyric Limit
With this new adjustment, Spotify is increasing the lyric access limit for free users. This change will be visible to users worldwide. Although the company has not provided a specific number of how many lyrics can be viewed, it has indicated that the new limit will be significantly higher than the previous restriction.
A Spotify spokesperson told TechCrunch, “At Spotify, we continuously test and improve our features. The availability of features may vary by subscription type and market. In the coming weeks, we will expand lyric access for Spotify free users, so more people can enjoy song lyrics.”
Spotify had initially tested making lyrics a paid feature in September 2023. Although the company did not clearly state whether this move significantly increased paid subscriptions, the decision to lift the restriction suggests that the impact was not substantial.
In Q2 2024, Spotify reported having 626 million monthly active users, with 246 million of them being premium subscribers. With this change, free users will also benefit more from their Spotify experience.
