Many brands in Europe are reporting that electric car sales are falling. Today’s reports from Germany indicate the same thing. The number of electric cars sold in July 2024 is quite low compared to last year. So how much is the difference? Here is the latest on electric car sales in Germany…
Electric car sales in Germany down 37 percent!
While the electric car sector is growing rapidly in China, the situation is exactly the opposite in all other regions. Since the beginning of 2024, car sales in Europe have been falling, leading manufacturers to internal combustion engines. An example of this came from Germany today. Authorities checking electric car sales in July 2024 found that the figure was 37 percent lower than in July 2023.
Germany, which registered a total of 238,263 vehicles in July this year, recorded a sales figure of 2.1 percent lower compared to the same period last year when the total figure is considered. While 83,405 of these sales were gasoline vehicles, the sales rate of gasoline vehicles increased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous year. Again, the option that sold closest to gasoline was HEV/PHEV with 79,870 units. HEV/PHEV cars, which sold 18.4 percent more compared to July 2023, seem to be the most interesting ones of the period.
The figures in diesel car sales are especially striking. Many people who say that diesel is over with the emergence of electric cars neglect that diesels, which grew by 1.4 percent with 43,107 sales, are still very popular. We have not mentioned electric cars up to this point. Because electrics are not among the three best-selling fuel options in Germany. Electric cars, which ranked fourth on the list, recorded 30,762 sales in Germany in July 2024. However, this figure is 36.8 percent lower than the previous year.
Electricity, the only fuel option that has been declining in Germany, except for CNG, is not currently preferred in Europe due to range and charging problems. Of course, this may change in the coming years. However, as of July 2024, there is a general decline in electric vehicle sales. What do you think about this?
