Microsoft is preparing to introduce Hotpatch in the upcoming new release of Windows 11 24H2. The new feature aims to make usage smoother and more uninterrupted, greatly reducing the need to reboot after applying security and system updates. So, how will this feature work?
Windows 11 Hotpatch will only require 4 reboots per year
Windows 11 users usually have to restart their devices after the monthly security updates. But thanks to “Hotpatch”, this is no longer necessary. According to Microsoft, this new technology applies updates to the operating system by updating code directly in memory without rebooting the system.
This method has already been successfully implemented on Windows Server versions and Xbox platforms, and will now be available for Windows 11 users. The Hotpatch feature for Windows 11 enables faster and more seamless updates.
According to Microsoft, devices will only need to be rebooted four times a year, in January, April, July and October, for baseline updates. These monthly updates will include security patches as well as various performance improvements.
However, security updates in other months can be applied without requiring a reboot. With this innovation, Microsoft aims to enable Windows 11 users to use their devices for longer periods of time without the hassle of rebooting.
Hotpatch for Windows 11 will be a great advantage, especially in the business world and in environments where continuous work is important. Users will be able to avoid interruptions caused by unexpected reboots while working on critical tasks.
