Google has made significant improvements to its earthquake warning system for Android devices. The company stated that with the new update, the warning feature can be used in more regions. In particular, it was stated that it was extended to all states of the USA.
Android earthquake warning system is expanding
Google’s Android earthquake warning system has so far only been available in certain states in the US. Accordingly, it was working in parts of California, Oregon and Washington using seismometer data. Accordingly, the company will also use smartphones’ accelerometers to detect seismic activity.
When an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 or more is detected, a “Be Aware” or “Take Action” alert will be sent to Android users’ phones. In this context, they will be warned against tremors. They will also be advised to protect themselves in moderate to severe tremors.
Additional details about the earthquake will also be available on Google Search. The expansion, which is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, aims to increase earthquake preparedness in the US.
Google said it is working in collaboration with seismologists and emergency managers to improve the Android earthquake warning system. It should be reminded that it has also been successful in detecting earthquakes in our country recently.
A company spokesperson said that safety is a priority and cross-platform cooperation should continue. Of course, it should be noted that it does not work actively in all regions of our country.
