The highly anticipated date of September 10, 2024, for both Sony and PlayStation fans and the gaming world has finally arrived, and the official announcement of the PS5 Pro has been made. The approximately 10-minute promotional video shared on Sony PlayStation’s official YouTube page was met with a wave of backlash from gamers.
No disc version for PS5 Pro and the stand is sold separately
The long-awaited PS5 Pro, which has been anticipated for some time, received significant criticism due to its price and what many saw as a lackluster presentation. Sony plans to launch the device with an unprecedented price tag of $699 in the U.S. and €799 in Europe, leading to a flood of “dislikes” on YouTube.
One of the main points of criticism from gamers is that the device is being released without a disc drive and that the stand must be purchased separately. Similarly, if you want to add a disc drive to your device, it will cost you an additional $100/€100.
Another major complaint is that the presentation was primarily focused on how older games would look on the PS5 Pro. Gamers feel that when they purchase this console, they may not see anything new beyond titles they’ve likely already played. Given the console’s release date of November 7, 2024, this situation is unlikely to change by the end of the year.
PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro…
As you may know, PlayStation consoles are priced in euros for the European region and then taxed accordingly. This means that the €800 price, even without adding any taxes, already comes in around 30,000 TL. When factoring in the taxes in Turkey, the possibility of the console’s price being below 40,000 TL seems slim.
In this context, the PS5 Pro announcement has faced criticism both globally and in Turkey. However, given Sony’s and the PlayStation brand’s global strength and the fact that GTA 6 is expected to run at 4K – 60 FPS on the console, it’s likely that the PS5 Pro will still achieve strong sales worldwide.
