TikTok is allegedly sharing children’s personal data illegally
The tension between TikTok and the U.S. has been increasing for years. The U.S. has accused the platform multiple times of leaking data to China, leading to several lawsuits. One of the most significant accusations in these ongoing cases involves TikTok’s policies regarding child users.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has accused TikTok of illegally collecting and selling personal data from child accounts. This alleged violation also breaches a new state law designed to protect children’s rights on social media. TikTok quickly responded to the claim, denying the allegations. However, Paxton insists that TikTok has failed to comply with these requirements.

Attorney General Ken Paxton’s statement:
“I will continue to hold TikTok and other Big Tech companies accountable for exploiting Texas children and failing to prioritize the online safety and privacy of minors. Texas law requires social media companies to take steps to protect children online and provide tools for parents to do the same. TikTok and other social media companies cannot ignore their responsibilities under Texas law.”
This is not the first incident between the U.S. and TikTok regarding this issue. Brian M. Boynton, Chief of the Civil Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, previously filed a lawsuit against the platform, claiming it failed to meet its obligations concerning the same matter.
