There is fierce competition between Apple and Samsung in the smartphone market, with both companies continuously releasing new models to gain an edge. Last month, Apple unveiled its iPhone 16 series during an event, while Samsung is set to respond with the Galaxy S25 family in early 2025. But how do the processor costs of these two flagship models, the Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max, compare?
Galaxy S25 Ultra’s processor cost surpasses that of the iPhone 16 Pro Max
Recent reports reveal that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, powering the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, costs between $190 and $240. This marks a 20% increase compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
On the other hand, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chip, one of Qualcomm’s biggest rivals, is priced at $155. Additionally, recent rumors suggest that due to production issues with the Exynos 2500, Samsung might equip the standard and Plus models with this MediaTek chip instead.
The most striking detail in the report is the cost of the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s processor. The Apple A18 Pro chip reportedly costs just $45, which means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 powering the Galaxy S25 Ultra is 4 to 5 times more expensive.
