While game broadcasting on YouTube has become one of the most popular content types of recent times, the platform has suffered serious losses in the number of viewers in this area. Losing to its competitors, especially Twitch, YouTube seems to be taking new steps to win back its viewers on the Gaming platform.
YouTube Gaming viewership fell sharply
YouTube continues to experience a significant decline in viewership for game streaming. According to the latest Stream Charts report, YouTube’s overall viewership declined by 13.6 percent in the third quarter. The number of Gaming viewers declined by 27 percent.
Twitch, a rival platform, ranks second with 19.1 percent market share. But new platforms like Kick are growing rapidly. Kick viewer hours increased by 15.6 percent in the third quarter. Payment rates stand out among the main reasons for this.
Of course, YouTube still ranks first in the industry. Accordingly, it appeals to 66.7 percent of the market in terms of video viewing time. However, the competition is getting fiercer every day. It is noteworthy that YouTube Gaming viewership is declining, especially despite major events such as League of Legends, PUBG and Free Fire.
Overall, over 19.7 billion hours of content were consumed across all platforms in the third quarter. YouTube captured a total of 13.1 billion viewing hours in the third quarter. The company needs to reverse the loss of viewers in the face of increasing competition.
