Apple has placed some older iPhone and Apple Watch models on the Vintage and Obsolete list to streamline its product support processes. This decision will be part of the company’s strategy to focus on new devices.
Apple says goodbye to iPhone XS Max and 6s Plus
In a decision that will apply globally, the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone XS Max models have been included in the ‘Obsolete’ category. Apple classifies a device as ‘obsolete’ after five years from the date it was last available for sale. For these devices, Apple and authorized service providers can offer repair services, but there is no stock guarantee.
It’s also worth noting that the 32GB iPhone 6s Plus was previously listed as Obsolete. Interestingly, the standard versions of iPhone XS and iPhone 6s are not yet included in this list. So it is possible to say that these devices are still supported.
On the Apple Watch front, Watch Series 2 models offered with aluminum and stainless steel case options were listed as Obsolote. Apple includes a product in this list seven years after its last sale date.
No repair service is provided by Apple and authorized service providers for products in this category. However, the exception remains that MacBook batteries can be replaced for up to 10 years. The Watch Series 2 with ceramic case is out of this scope for now.
