First of all, in Germany, vehicles are subjected to TÜV testing every two years after they reach the age of three. These comprehensive examinations cover many systems, such as brakes, steering, suspension and lighting, and assess whether the vehicles are safe to use on the road. By the way, TÜV tests are quite strict. In other words, one out of every five vehicles fails these tests.

In fact, the Tesla Model 3’s poor performance may be due to the structural features of electric vehicles. According to TÜV officials, electric vehicles are generally heavier and conventional braking systems are used less due to the regenerative braking system. This can lead to increased brake and suspension problems.

The TÜV report states that electric vehicles converted from traditional internal combustion engine platforms perform better. For example, the Volkswagen e-Golf and MINI Cooper SE were more reliable than vehicles built on all-electric platforms such as the Tesla Model 3 and Renault Zoe. In addition, the Porsche 911 Carrera outperformed vehicles in the 4-13 age group, while the Honda Jazz came out on top in the 2-3 age group.

Looking at the results, the problems experienced by the Tesla Model 3 show that all-electric vehicles are still in the development phase and need to overcome some fundamental challenges. In other words, making critical systems such as brakes and suspension more robust is vital for electric vehicles to meet reliability standards.
