Capcom managed to excite old players with surprise announcements at Game Awards 2024. The sequel to Okami, the action-adventure game that first debuted in 2006, and a new game in the Onimusha series have been announced.
New Okami and Onimusha games are coming
The Okami sequel, which does not yet have an official name, was introduced with a musical performance. Hideki Kamiya, the director of the first production, will take the helm again in the project he developed in his own studio Clovers. Although details are still unclear, Capcom has announced that a new adventure in the same spirit as Okami is underway.
It’s been almost 18 years since the release of Okami, which made a big impact with its Sumi-e-inspired style and open-world gameplay. Users have been waiting for a sequel for a long time and Capcom’s announcement seems to please those who follow the series.
The announcement of the Okami sequel comes at a time when Capcom is focusing on its biggest franchises. The company has recently focused on strengthening its brands like Monster Hunter and Resident Evil. The upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds and mobile title Monster Hunter Outlanders are prime examples.
But Okami won’t be the only classic making a comeback. The studio also announced that it will continue its action series Onimusha with a new game set in 2026. The first trailer features the series’ signature fights and samurai-inspired design.
