Bayraktar Kalkan DIHA, developed by Baykar, met the sky with its first mass production model after extensive testing processes. Adding a new one to Turkey’s domestic and national technologies, this unmanned aerial vehicle opens a new page with its vertical landing and take-off capability.
Bayraktar Kalkan DIHA started mass production
Having produced five different prototypes during the development process and undergone detailed tests with a total of 225 hours of flight time, the Kalkan DIHA has become ready for its new missions in the defence industry. After the prototypes successfully passed all system and performance tests with the flights performed at Baykar’s Flight Training and Test Centre in Keşan, they finally reached the mass production stage.
Bayraktar Kalkan DIHA draws attention with its design and technical features. Thanks to its vertical landing and take-off capability, this vehicle, which does not require the long runways required by conventional UAVs for take-off, can easily take off from warships, military bases or limited areas on the front line.

This flexibility also expands the areas of operational use. The vehicle takes off and lands with four electric motors and vertically positioned propellers, while the low-consumption internal combustion petrol engine behind it is activated during flight. In this way, it offers high performance in both vertical and horizontal flight.
The technical specifications of the Bayraktar Kalkan DIHA also support its mission capabilities. The vehicle has a communication range of 150 kilometres and can stay in the air for up to 12 hours. When the payload is carried, this period becomes seven hours. With a maximum take-off weight of 50 kilograms, the vehicle has a payload capacity of 5 kilograms.
The Kalkan DIHA, which can carry Electro-Optic (EO) and Infrared (IR) camera modules as well as laser range finder and marker equipment, is designed to be used effectively in reconnaissance and intelligence missions. The images and data obtained during the flight can be instantly transferred to command centres within 150 kilometres.
This unmanned aerial vehicle, which has been introduced to the defence industry, has autonomous capabilities such as automatic route tracking, target tracking, circling and returning home. The vehicle, which comes with the BG-160 Electro-Optic system developed by Baykar, can successfully perform day and night reconnaissance missions thanks to its thermal imaging feature. Capable of climbing up to 15 thousand feet, the Kalkan DIHA offers a suitable solution for long-range missions with a cruising speed of 80 knots.
