Foldable smartphone models are no longer just for tech enthusiasts. A recent market analysis from China reveals remarkable growth in this segment, with Huawei leading the way. Foldable devices are now appealing to a wider audience. But what factors are driving this growth? Here are the details…
Foldable Smartphone Sales Surge in China
The year 2024 marked significant growth for foldable smartphones in China. According to Counterpoint’s analysis, while foldable phones account for only 3% of total smartphone sales, the market has grown by 27% compared to last year. This figure highlights the increasing interest in foldable devices.

China is also one of the most competitive markets for foldable smartphones, with many manufacturers launching their models exclusively in the country. Despite intense competition, Huawei remains the undisputed leader, with one out of every two foldable smartphones sold carrying the Huawei brand. The most popular models include the book-style Mate X5 and Mate X6, while Pocket 2 and Nova Flip dominate the clamshell category.
Another strong contender in the market is Honor, whose Magic Vs2 and Vs3 models have gained significant attention. Honor is the only brand besides Huawei with a double-digit market share. The research also indicates that 67% of users prefer book-style foldable models, as their larger screens provide better usability, especially for business and multitasking purposes.
