Legendary author George R. R. Martin has made an exciting announcement that will thrill Elden Ring fans. The master of fantasy literature confirmed that discussions have taken place about adapting the game into a movie. However, there are still some obstacles surrounding the project. So, is it truly possible to bring Elden Ring to the big screen? Here are the details…
George R. R. Martin: “Discussions for Elden Ring Movie are Ongoing”
The possibility of adapting the hugely popular Elden Ring into a film is becoming more likely. Speaking at IGN Fan Fest 2025, George R. R. Martin responded to a question about the potential for a movie adaptation by saying, “I can’t talk too much about this, but some discussions are happening regarding a film adaptation.” While this statement has sparked hope among Elden Ring fans, Martin did not provide clear information about whether he would be directly involved in the project.

Martin’s primary focus remains completing the long-awaited new book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, which has been delayed for 13 years. This book is a major source of pressure for Martin, and it’s uncertain whether he would participate in the screenplay process if the Elden Ring film adaptation were to happen.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware, the studio behind Elden Ring, also made important remarks on the subject. Miyazaki expressed excitement about the idea of an Elden Ring movie but noted that the studio is not well-versed in the film industry. He emphasized the need for a reliable and strong partner to bring such a project to life, stating that the studio is not prepared to undertake this endeavor alone.
Nonetheless, there is still hope. The recently announced Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC was developed without direct involvement from George R. R. Martin. This shows that the game’s universe can expand even without the author’s direct input.
While no official announcement has been made regarding an Elden Ring movie yet, Martin’s comments indicate that the project is at least on the table. We will continue to follow any developments closely.
