According to a new leak, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may be slightly thicker than its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The most likely reason for this change is considered to make room for a larger battery capacity.
iPhone 17 Pro Max may be thicker than iPhone 16 Pro Max
According to the leak, the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max will increase from 8.25 millimetres to 8.725 millimetres. While this may seem like a small difference, equivalent to the thickness of the tip of a mechanical pencil or a fine grain of sand, it could offer a significant opportunity to increase battery volume.

Although it is not clearly explained why the device is thicker, it is thought that this is done to increase the battery capacity. If all of it is dedicated to the battery, this 0.5 millimetre increase could mean an additional capacity of about 400 mAh, which could offer about 8% more battery life compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, how much this increase will affect the phone’s usage time will depend on changes to the device’s energy consumption.
While the leak does not give any details about the iPhone 17 Pro model, it focuses only on the Pro Max version. It is also claimed that the entire iPhone 17 series will have ProMotion displays.
While the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to be introduced with other iPhone 17 models in September, it is rumoured that Apple may also launch the iPhone 17 Air model, which will have a much thinner design. So what do you think about this device?
