Tesla has quietly canceled the range-extending battery pack it announced for its electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck. The company announced that it has begun refunding customers who made reservations for this add-on, which was planned to be available for sale.
Tesla cancels Cybertruck’s range-extending battery pack
The canceled battery module was designed to take up a third of the Cybertruck’s bed space. This pack was expected to increase the dual-motor version’s range to over 750 kilometers.

However, as of 2024, this estimate was revised down to 716 kilometers and the product’s release date was postponed to mid-2025. The company then announced that the product was completely out of production and announced that it would refund the deposits paid to customers who made reservations.
Tesla did not share any reasoning for this decision. However, industry assessments indicate that user interest in the pack is low due to the fact that it takes up about 30 percent of the cargo area, can only be installed and removed at authorized service centers, and its high price.
When Tesla introduced the Cybertruck in 2019, it announced that the three-motor version would offer a range of close to 800 kilometers and would start at $70,000. However, the models that were released in late 2023 fell short of these promises.
The version with the longest range right now is the dual-motor AWD model, which offers a range of approximately 523 kilometers and is priced at $79,990. So what do you think about this?
