Huawei has officially entered the foldable laptop market. The company introduced its first commercially available foldable-screen laptop, the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design. This new laptop from the Chinese brand stands out not only with its foldable structure but also in many other aspects.
The MateBook Fold Ultimate Design is also notable for being Huawei’s first laptop powered by its self-developed HarmonyOS operating system and in-house chipset. However, the standout feature is clearly the display technology.
MateBook Fold Ultimate Design Specifications
When unfolded, the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design reveals a large 18-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and 3.3K resolution. When folded, it transforms into a compact 13-inch device.
The screen panel utilizes dual-layer LTPO OLED technology and offers a 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. With 1600 nits peak brightness, the display also features a carbon fiber support layer underneath that triples its impact resistance. Weighing just 1.16 kg and measuring only 7.3 mm thick when open, the device is incredibly slim and lightweight.
The body is covered in leather and comes in three colors: Forged Shadow Black, Sky White, and Cloud Blue. The black version features Huawei’s unique “Forging Shadow Cloud Pattern” rear design and a “Black Gold Waistline” aesthetic.
According to Huawei, this laptop includes the largest foldable hinge in the industry. Measuring 285 mm, the hinge features a triple-shaft design that enhances tactile feedback and precision when opening and closing.
The hinge can be fixed at various angles for ergonomic use, offering a 0 to 150-degree range. The cooling system has also been customized for this device, using diamond aluminum dual-fan architecture and an ultra-thin anti-gravity vapor chamber, ensuring consistent performance under heavy loads.
Huawei’s own chipset powers the device, although technical details about this chip have not yet been revealed. The laptop runs on HarmonyOS 5, Huawei’s PC-oriented operating system.
