There have been some notable developments regarding the Half-Life series, which Valve has been keeping quiet about for years. Recent leaks reveal that a new Half-Life game, publicly known as “HLX,” is nearing completion. The project’s internal name is Half-Life 3.
New Half-Life game could be out soon
The latest updates for Deadlock and Dota 2, which run on the Source 2 game engine, include much deeper and more comprehensive structures than usual. Among these structures, the system that allows the player to save and load their progress in the game has been completely rewritten.
This renewal of the registration system indicates that the basic structure has been completed in the development process and that the bug fixing and performance improvement phase has now begun. The traces of the HLX codenamed production do not seem to be limited to these updates.
In other updates to some of Valve’s games, files that clearly belong to the new Half-Life game were found. These files include systems related to vehicle mechanics and structures that allow the player to interact with transportation vehicles.
Valve has not yet made an official statement, but sources close to the company’s internal structure indicate that the HLX project is planned as the final installment of the Half-Life series. After Half-Life 2: Episode Two was released in 2007, the continuation of the series remained uncertain for years.
