Samsung will completely end software and content support for smartwatch models with the Tizen operating system. The company is reaching the end of the support discontinuation process, which has been carried out in stages since 2024, as of September 2025. After this date, Tizen-based Galaxy Gear and Galaxy Watch models will not be able to benefit from content download services via the Galaxy Store.
Samsung will end support for Tizen smartwatches
As of September 30, 2024, paid content was not allowed to be downloaded from the Galaxy Store for Tizen-based wearable devices. On May 31, 2025, this limitation was expanded to include free content.

With the final phase, by the end of September 2025, users will not be able to re-acquire any content they have purchased or downloaded in the past. Samsung has not yet shared the exact list of devices that will be removed from support. However, based on the company’s previous statements and software infrastructure, the following models are expected to be affected:
- Galaxy Gear
- Galaxy Gear 2
- Galaxy Gear S2
- Gear S3 Classic
- Gear S3 Frontier
- Galaxy Watch
- Galaxy Watch Active
- Galaxy Watch Active2
- Galaxy Watch 3
All of these devices use the Tizen operating system and were released before the transition to Wear OS. With the Galaxy Watch 4 series introduced in 2021, Samsung had switched to the Wear OS-based platform on its smart watches. This model and subsequent devices will not be affected by the September 2025 outage.
It is noteworthy that Samsung has only ended Tizen support on the smart watch side. The company continues to support the Tizen operating system it uses on TVs. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
