Google has added two important features to the Messages app. The “delete for everyone” and “snooze notifications” functions, which have been available in rival messaging apps for a long time, are now available in Google Messages. The company started testing these features a few weeks ago and they have been available to all users with the June 2025 update.
Google Messages will offer two new features
The snooze notifications feature allows users to mute incoming message notifications to check them later. Notifications can be postponed for 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours or indefinitely via the panel that opens when any conversation in the chat list is long-pressed.

Postponed chats are shown in gray and a clock icon appears at the bottom of the message. If users want to cancel this process, they can reactivate the notification by pressing the same icon. This process is not sent as a notification to the other party.
Another innovation added to the app is the message deletion feature. Users can now use the “Delete for me” or “Delete for everyone” options by long-pressing a message they have sent. However, this process is only valid if the other party is using the current version of the Google Messages app. If the message recipient is using an older version, the message that was thought to have been deleted may still be visible to the other party.
Google has included these two new features in the application in order to make the messaging experience more flexible and user-friendly. With this change, Google Messages will offer its users functions that have been available on platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram for a long time.
