Apple has released the second developer beta of iPadOS 26. The first beta was released right after WWDC25. With the new beta distributed today, Apple has taken another step in the development process of one of the most comprehensive updates for the iPad.
iPadOS 26 beta 2 version released
iPadOS 26 includes radical changes to the productivity capabilities of the iPad. The most notable innovations in the system include a brand new windowing system where application windows can be freely resized.

A Mac-like menu bar has also been added to the iPad. This makes it easier for users to access in-app controls and system functions. The improvements made to the Files app offer more flexibility in tasks such as multi-file operations and folder management.
System-wide support for Live Activities and Background Tasks has been added. With these features, users can follow events happening on the iPad more dynamically, and some tasks can continue to run even when applications are closed.
Additionally, the new, more responsive cursor behavior that comes with iPadOS 26 improves the experience, especially when it comes to multi-window management and touch-hardware interaction.
The new version comes with Apple’s visual design language called Liquid Glass. This design approach is based on transparent effects where light and color move fluidly behind interface elements. This structure introduces a new visual identity throughout iPadOS and, together with multitasking capabilities, transforms the experience both aesthetically and functionally.
Various performance issues and bugs identified in the developer beta 1 have been partially fixed in this new version. Apple continues the testing process to increase system stability ahead of the general release in the fall.
