AMD’s artificial intelligence-supported image enhancement technology FSR 4.0 is being integrated into PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026. FSR 4, which was introduced on the PC side with the Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards, will be transferred to consoles and will replace the current PSSR system. During this transition period, developers will not need to make a special update for the games.
PlayStation 5 Pro will gain FSR 4.0 feature
PlayStation architect Mark Cerny confirmed in an interview that FSR 4 technology will come to PS5 Pro. Thanks to special optimizations made by AMD on the FP8-based version, FSR 4 will be fully compatible with the PS5 Pro’s built-in NPU (neural processing unit) hardware. This compatibility shows that the version to be integrated into the console does not contain any restrictions or clipping.

FSR 4 was announced with the Radeon RX 9000 series cards with RDNA 4 architecture. Thanks to new hardware-supported algorithms, it can increase frame rates without compromising image quality at 1440p and 4K resolutions. This technology, which has reached a level that will compete with rival systems based on artificial intelligence such as DLSS, promises similar performance on the console side.
It is stated that AMD may integrate this technology not only to the PS5 Pro, but also to portable systems running on the RDNA 3 architecture and Ryzen 8000 series processors in the future. Retroactively optimizing the FP8 architecture to previous generations may allow a wider range of hardware to become compatible with this system.
Sony and AMD’s 2026 target stands out as a serious step towards standardizing the use of artificial intelligence in visual enhancement technologies on consoles. It is stated that this transition, which will be made without any manual intervention on the developer side, will ensure that games run smoothly with FSR 4.
