WhatsApp continues to integrate AI to take the user experience to the next level. The new feature, released in the latest Android beta version 2.25.21.12 released on the Google Play Store, can be a lifesaver, especially for users with many active chats who struggle to keep up with messages.
What is WhatsApp Quick Summary and How Will It Work?
Unlike the previously announced feature, which summarizes unread messages within a single chat, Quick Summary provides a comprehensive overview by compiling the conversations across multiple chats simultaneously. Users can trigger this feature by selecting up to five chats from the main chat screen and tapping the new “Quick Summary” icon. Within minutes, the AI will generate a short summary of the most relevant and important unread messages in each selected chat.

This allows users to quickly get a general overview of conversations without having to individually navigate each chat and read long threads.
When it comes to AI and personal data, privacy is the first concern. WhatsApp is addressing this concern with a technology called Meta’s Exclusive Processing. This system ensures that the raw content of your messages remains encrypted and isolated during the summarization process.
The most crucial aspect of this technology is that it guarantees that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can read the content of your messages during the summarization process. This system operates without compromising end-to-end encryption, protecting the privacy of users’ private conversations.
Like other AI tools in WhatsApp, the “Quick Summary” feature will be completely optional. This feature, which will be disabled by default, will need to be manually enabled in the app settings. This approach gives users full control over their own data.
Furthermore, chats protected by “Enhanced Chat Privacy” will not be included in this feature. This is not due to a flaw in the technology, but rather because WhatsApp respects the user’s preference for deliberately excluding the use of AI for these types of chats.
The feature is currently in development and is expected to be rolled out to all users in a future update following a testing phase.
