Instagram is currently testing a new feature for Reels that allows videos to play continuously without any manual input. Called “Auto Scroll,” this function automatically moves to the next video once the current one finishes, eliminating the need for users to swipe with their fingers.
Instagram Tests ‘Auto Scroll’ Feature for Reels
In this new layout, users who want to rewatch a video can simply swipe up to return to it. However, once the video ends for the second time, auto scroll will kick back in and start playing the next video.

The feature will be turned off by default. To activate it, users will need to tap the three-dot menu located below the share icon and toggle the “Auto Scroll” option.
Since Auto Scroll is still in the testing phase, it’s not yet available to everyone. Instagram appears to be rolling it out to a limited group of users, including select content creators and primarily those in India.
While this feature removes manual control over video transitions, it aims to save users time and reduce the need to swipe every 5–10 seconds. Another important angle here is Meta’s likely goal of increasing Reels viewership. Currently, if you don’t swipe, the same Reel loops over and over.
There’s no official timeline for when Auto Scroll will be rolled out to all users, but it’s expected to launch in the near future.
