Ubisoft has officially announced the new installment in the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series. At the company’s annual investor meeting, it was announced that the new game is being developed as a first-person shooter (FPS).
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series is returning
It was announced that the game is currently in development and, unlike previous installments in the series, will be an FPS. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot compared this new project to the long-term success of Rainbow Six Siege, stating that it could have a similar commercial impact.

The new game will be the first major step in the series since Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, released in 2019. Breakpoint failed to meet expectations in terms of both sales and critical acclaim. Furthermore, another project, Ghost Recon: Frontline, was announced but canceled before its release. Ubisoft stated that they had learned from these experiences for the new installment and that the development process was conducted with a focus on quality.
The meeting discussed not only the new game’s features but also Ubisoft’s financial strategies. The company also announced how it will use the investments it received from China-based technology giant Tencent.
A significant portion of these investments will be allocated to revitalizing established gaming brands like Ghost Recon. This process is being carried out through subsidiaries established with the support of Tencent.
This move by Ubisoft stands out as a significant initiative in the increasingly competitive FPS genre. The company aims to both recapture long-time fans of the series and reposition the Ghost Recon brand commercially.
No information has yet been released regarding the game’s release date or gameplay details. The project, which is reportedly in the early stages of development, is considered a critical turning point for the series’ future.
