WhatsApp has begun testing a new feature that strengthens cross-platform integration. The ability to directly transfer profile photos from Facebook and Instagram to WhatsApp, first seen in the Android beta version (2.25.21.23), is now available for iPhone users with the latest iOS beta version (25.21.10.74). This move is the latest step in Meta’s strategy to provide a more streamlined and consistent user experience across its apps.
WhatsApp Profile Photos Will Be Synchronized
Until now, users who wanted to use their Instagram or Facebook profile photos on WhatsApp had to follow a cumbersome process. This typically involved logging into the relevant social media app, finding the photo, taking a screenshot, or downloading it to their device. Then, returning to WhatsApp, manually selecting the photo from the gallery, and cropping it was necessary.

The new feature eliminates all these steps. Thanks to the addition of “Import from Facebook” and “Import from Instagram” options to the profile photo change menu, users can now transfer their current photos from other platforms to their WhatsApp profiles with a single tap. This represents a significant time-saver and convenience, especially for active users who want to maintain a consistent digital identity on social media.
Meta understands that privacy is a top concern for users when it comes to platform integrations. Therefore, the new feature is completely optional and disabled by default.
Those who want to use this functionality must link their WhatsApp account to Meta Account Center. However, this link means no data will be automatically shared without the user’s explicit consent. The company emphasizes that this integration is limited to optional features such as profile photo or avatar syncing and does not in any way impact the core privacy protections that underpin WhatsApp, such as end-to-end encryption.
