Microsoft has announced that its long-standing Microsoft Lens-PDF Scanner app, available on mobile platforms, will be completely shut down by the end of the year. According to the company’s official announcement, the app will be removed from both the App Store and Play Store in November 2025. It will be completely deactivated in December, and users will no longer be able to scan PDFs through the app.
Microsoft Lens-PDF Scanner app is being discontinued
Microsoft Lens was renowned for its features, including cropping and enhancing photos of documents or whiteboards, making them readable, and converting these contents to PDF, Word, PowerPoint, or Excel formats.

Furthermore, the app’s core features included digitizing printed or handwritten text and saving scanned documents to OneNote, OneDrive, or local storage.
Following the closure of Lens, Microsoft recommends users turn to the 365 Copilot app to meet their document scanning needs. This app is positioned as the company’s integrated AI-powered next-generation productivity platform.
In another recent announcement, Microsoft announced the end of support for Windows 11 SE. Introduced on November 9, 2021, Windows 11 SE, specifically targeted at education, was presented as an operating system optimized for low-end devices.
Windows 11 SE first launched with the $249 Surface Laptop SE. This special edition, which came pre-installed with Microsoft 365 apps, attracted attention with its simplified interface.
According to the new announcement, official support for Windows 11 SE will end in October 2026. After this date, the operating system will continue to function, but security and software updates will not be provided. This will introduce potential security vulnerabilities, especially for devices used in educational institutions.
With these recent changes, Microsoft is simplifying its product portfolio and directing users to new platforms that offer more integrated solutions.
