Microsoft is preparing to add a new AI-powered area to the Windows 11 taskbar. According to code revealed in recent Insider builds, the operating system’s taskbar will offer significantly improved user interaction in the future. With the new design, the taskbar will no longer simply list open applications; it will also function as a personal “AI companion.”
Windows 11’s taskbar is being revamped
The new AI area is being designed to integrate with Copilot. This area will be able to converse with users using natural language and provide instant support. Microsoft’s offering won’t be limited to its own tools. Third-party AI systems are also planned to be integrated into this area in the future.

The new system will also increase the accessibility of existing AI tools. Features such as “Click To Do” and “Copilot Vision,” currently available in Windows 11, will be able to be opened directly from this new area, which will be added to the taskbar.
Click To Do analyzes screen content and suggests context-appropriate actions. Copilot Vision can perform tasks like adding events to the calendar from selected text or retrieving information from an image. All of these features are expected to be accessible with a single click from the taskbar.
In its previously released “Windows 2030 Vision” promotional video, Microsoft demonstrated that AI will play a growing role in system management, and that users will interact with the system using voice commands in addition to keyboard and mouse. The new taskbar area is considered an early step in this long-term transformation.
There is no specific date for the general availability of these features, which are still in development. However, it appears that Microsoft is accelerating its plans to embed AI at the core of the Windows experience. This taskbar transformation is being interpreted as a sign that AI-driven interactions will become more prevalent system-wide.
