Paramount Pictures has revived its plans for a sequel to World War Z, one of the most notable zombie films of the genre. The second installment of the film, released in 2013, remained in development for years and was shelved several times. However, a significant management change at the studio has reinstated the project.
A new World War Z film may be in the works
Paramount was recently sold to the film company Skydance. With the completion of the sale, the studio’s management also changed hands. Skydance founder David Ellison has taken over as Paramount’s new president.

Ellison has been actively involved in Hollywood at Skydance since 2006. Following his new role, Ellison has publicly listed Top Gun 3, a new Star Trek film, and World War Z 2 as his top projects.
Brad Pitt, who starred in the first film, is expected to reprise the sequel. World War Z received positive reviews from audiences and achieved satisfactory box office success upon its release. Preparations for the sequel began quickly, and David Fincher was even tapped to direct.
Despite this, production was repeatedly interrupted, and the project remained in development for years. As a result, no concrete action was taken for nearly twelve years, and the project was considered canceled.
With Paramount’s move to Skydance, the World War Z 2 file was reopened. However, as the project has undergone numerous transformations over time, the stage at which the film will be developed remains unknown. Sources close to the studio agree that Brad Pitt will once again star.
