    Trump triples tariffs

Donald Trump has decided to impose new tariffs. This move could shift the balance of power in the tech sector.

Donald Trump, upon assuming office, is reverting to the tariff policies that have shaken the global economy. Trump, aiming to reduce technology dependence on China and shift production to the US, has introduced new and much heavier tariffs to achieve this goal.

Speaking on the presidential plane upon returning from his recent trip to Russia, Trump announced that he would impose new import duties following the completion of the Section 232 investigations. These new duties range from 200 to 300 percent. This means that the previously 100 percent tariff will rise to 200 to 300 percent with this regulation.

With this move, Trump is reportedly aiming to completely relocate semiconductor production, particularly within the US. Industry giants such as TSMC, Samsung, Nvidia, and Apple have secured exemptions from the new tax by promising significant investments.

However, this new tax regulation could negatively impact small-scale chip manufacturers unable to make large investments. The increased tax burden is making it harder for these companies to survive. The Article 232 investigations are expected to be completed by the end of August. Therefore, the new taxes are expected to be announced around that time. Experts warn that this move could create new tensions in the global technology supply chain.

This decision could force technology companies to close their production facilities in China and relocate to the US to reduce costs. However, this process appears unlikely to be easy due to logistics, labor, and infrastructure costs.
