Ubisoft has dropped a surprise for Assassin’s Creed fans. While most eyes are on Shadows, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is getting fresh content in the form of a brand new story chapter, and it will not cost players a cent.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC confirmed and free

The announcement came through the official Assassin’s Creed account, confirming that Basim’s story will continue in ninth century alUla. Alongside the new missions, Ubisoft promised gameplay updates for both the expansion and the base game, keeping the focus on stealth and open world exploration that defined Mirage.
The DLC will be entirely free, a rare move in today’s gaming climate. Ubisoft has not pinned down a release date, only saying that players can expect it later this year.
A shift from Mirage’s original plan
When Assassin’s Creed Mirage launched in October 2023, Ubisoft described it as a self contained adventure without plans for expansions. Stephane Boudon, one of the developers, even said during a Reddit AMA that Mirage was built to stand alone, while hinting that the team had ideas to extend Basim’s journey. This new chapter appears to be the payoff to those ideas.
Interestingly, French outlet Les Echos reported earlier in the year that new Mirage content came out of a collaboration between Ubisoft and Savvy Games Group, a Saudi backed gaming and esports company. That partnership may have played a role in Mirage getting the unexpected expansion.
Basim’s return to the spotlight
Basim’s character, introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, has become a fan favorite. Mirage gave him the lead role and re centered the series around stealth and dense city design, a return to the franchise’s roots. A new story chapter offers the chance to explore more of his past and set the stage for future appearances in Shadows and beyond.
- Free story chapter for Basim set in alUla
- New missions with stealth focused gameplay
- Updates to base game systems included
- Release expected later this year
Assassin’s Creed Mirage joins Xbox Game Pass
While fans wait for the free expansion, Microsoft has added Assassin’s Creed Mirage to its Xbox Game Pass lineup this month. That means even more players will have a chance to jump into Basim’s story before the new chapter arrives. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, Mirage is not done yet, and the next act is just around the corner.
