Apple is preparing for the most comprehensive design overhaul of its iPhone lineup in years. According to analyst Mark Gurman, the company has launched a three-year overhaul. This overhaul will completely abandon the current design language, which has been in place since the iPhone 12.
Design Changes for iPhone Models
The first step in the overhaul will be the iPhone 17 Air, expected to be unveiled next month. This device, which will replace the iPhone 16 Plus, features a significantly thinner design. Hardware-wise, it will feature a single rear camera, Apple’s first internal modem, a smaller battery, and will also lack a physical SIM card slot.

The standard iPhone 17 model’s design is similar to the iPhone 16, while a revamped camera module is being developed for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models.
The next major milestone in the design calendar will be 2026. Apple will unveil its foldable iPhone, which has been in development for a long time. Codenamed “V68,” the device will feature a total of four cameras. Two of these cameras will be located on the back cover, one on the outer display, and the other on the foldable inner display.
The final and most striking part of this major design change will be the iPhone 20, due for release in 2027. Designed specifically for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, this model will feature a completely new curved glass design. With this model, Apple will once again differentiate the form factor of the iPhone series, bringing a breath of fresh air to the market.
