Just hours before Apple announces the new iPhone 17 series, crucial information about the phones’ battery capacities has leaked. According to information found in China’s 3C certification database, the new models’ battery capacities vary depending on whether they have a physical SIM card slot.
iPhone 17 series battery capacity revealed
According to the leaked data, the iPhone 17’s battery capacity is 3692 mAh. The iPhone 17 Air’s battery capacity is 3036 mAh for the model with a physical SIM card slot, rising to 3149 mAh for the eSIM-only version.

The iPhone 17 Pro’s battery capacity is listed as 3988 mAh for the model with a SIM card slot and 4252 mAh for the eSIM model. The top-of-the-line iPhone 17 Pro Max has a battery capacity of 4823 mAh for the model with a SIM card slot and 5088 mAh for the eSIM model.
If these leaks are true, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the first iPhone model to surpass the 5000mAh limit. This capacity represents a roughly 8% increase over the previous iPhone 16 Pro Max.
On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Air, with its slim design, stands out as the model with the lowest battery capacity in the series. Apple’s new iPhone 17 series and other new products will be unveiled at an event broadcast live on YouTube, as it does every year.
If the leaks are accurate, Apple’s steps to completely eliminate the SIM card slot appear to have a positive impact on battery capacity. The removal of physical components like the SIM card slot creates more space within the phone’s interior, which can be allocated to larger batteries or other components.
By further expanding eSIM technology, the company is both gaining design flexibility and improving the user experience with higher battery capacities. This strategy is particularly evident in the top-tier iPhone, the Pro Max, and stands out as a significant step toward meeting users’ long-awaited battery life expectations.
